The “Hockey Gods” gave us three game 7’s in the second round of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs!
Thanks to the inspirational return of Oskar Lindblom to the Philadelphia Flyers lineup, the Flyers forced a game 7 after being down 3-1 in the series but were ultimately upset by the New York Islanders.
Victor Hedman’s double-overtime goal in game 5 sent the Boston Bruins home for the offseason as the Tampa Bay Lightning look prepared for a deep playoff run.
Game 5 of the Vancouver-Vegas series saw Canucks backup Thatcher Demko start his first playoff game, turning aside 42 saves in a 2-1 victory followed by a 48-save shutout performance in game 6. But the Vegas Golden Knights held the Canucks to just 14 shots, finishing the series with a 3-0 victory.
But not before rumors stirred that the Canucks snuck strippers into “the bubble” for Demko’s efforts.
Or before Marc Andre Fleury recorded his 81st postseason win, passing Ken Dryden for 6th most all-time.
And the Dallas Stars pulled the biggest upset of the second round, defeating the Colorado Avalanche in 7 games, despite MacKinnon’s heroic efforts and Gretzky’s fandom.
All 3 hosts see the Lightning defeating the Islanders in the Eastern Conference Finals.
But there remains a divide on the Stars or Golden Knights winning the Western Conference Finals.
Conn Smythe favorites are named.
And congrats to Bobby Ryan for winning this year’s Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
