After a week away the Hockey Players Club podcast hosts Kevin Kustron, Kyle Kittleberger, Brandon Rubeo, and Matt Schwartz are back with a vengeance, with a bloated, post-holiday show.

NHL Weekly Roundup, ICYMI:

Connor McDavid, Johnny Gaudreau, and Nikita Kucherov were named the NHL’s 3 Stars of December.

Kucherov is absolutely torching the league, turning opposing goalie creases league-wide to piss-yellow, all while leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to far atop the NHL standings.

Not to be outdone by his Russian-brethren, Alex Ovechkin leads the pack in the race for the Maurice Richard Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s leading goal scorer. Ovi, John Tavares, Jeff Skinner, Patrick Laine, Gabriel Landeskog, Cam Atkinson, David Pastrnak, and Nathan MacKinnon are all on pace for 50+ goal seasons. But who will actually hit the 50-goal mark, which was once commonplace but now almost non-existent?

The NHL announced the captains of the 2019 All-Star Game, played on January 26th in San Jose. The four captains – McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, and Ovechkin – are all former first overall draft picks, with Ovi being the only “old captain” over 23. And it sounds like his age is catching up with him as he’s notified the league and fans he won’t be playing but rather resting his body for what he hopes to be another booze-filled Stanly Cup summer. But does the Great 8 owe the NHL, fans, and/or the game his presence? Our pod crew has some mixed feelings…

Dallas Stars CEO, Jim Lites, turned to the media to describe Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn’s state of play. He didn’t mince words as he said, “they are fucking horseshit, I don’t know how else to put it.” A strong, hilarious, and unconventional method to try and jumpstart his superstars.

Btw, have you seen T.J. Oshie and Tom Wilson’s pregame ball-twapping ritual?!

And what the hell is going on with Patrik Berglund that he’s voluntarily terminated his contract with the Buffalo Sabres, effectively walking away from $12.58 million?! Someone get the man a better financial advisor!

And of course, plenty of other topics and chirps before the crew debates…

Weekly Picks:

Once again, Sam Martinez, of Oxnard, CA, won last week’s Weekly Picks leading him to a convincing December victory. So not only does he win a $20 HPC gift card for winning the week, but he also wins an HPC XV3 hockey stick for winning the month. Someone needs to take Sam down before he wins any more prizes!

This week the crew debate and select their winners for the following three, of a total of nine,  prediction questions:

Of course, no Hockey Players Club Podcast would be complete without a round of Top Shelf Trivia. This week Kus has the crew name the starting goaltender of each NHL team. The crew quickly learns Schwartz is too focused on scoring goals to know who’s trying to stop them… and Kittelberger further supplants himself as the resident nerd of the Hockey Players Club podcast team.

Please follow and reach out to the Hockey Players Club via InstagramFacebook, and Twitter to submit your questions and comments to the HPC podcast crew. And don’t forget, take 60-seconds to submit your Weekly Picks for a chance to win a FREE $20 HPC gift card (for weekly winners) and Hockey Players Club XV3 hockey stick (awarded to monthly winners).
