After a week away the Hockey Players Club podcast hosts Kevin Kustron, Kyle Kittleberger, Brandon Rubeo, and Matt Schwartz are back with a vengeance, with a bloated, post-holiday show.

NHL Weekly Roundup, ICYMI:

Connor McDavid, Johnny Gaudreau, and Nikita Kucherov were named the NHL’s 3 Stars of December.

Kucherov is absolutely torching the league, turning opposing goalie creases league-wide to piss-yellow, all while leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to far atop the NHL standings.

Not to be outdone by his Russian-brethren, Alex Ovechkin leads the pack in the race for the Maurice Richard Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL’s leading goal scorer. Ovi, John Tavares, Jeff Skinner, Patrick Laine, Gabriel Landeskog, Cam Atkinson, David Pastrnak, and Nathan MacKinnon are all on pace for 50+ goal seasons. But who will actually hit the 50-goal mark, which was once commonplace but now almost non-existent?

The NHL announced the captains of the 2019 All-Star Game, played on January 26th in San Jose. The four captains – McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, and Ovechkin – are all former first overall draft picks, with Ovi being the only “old captain” over 23. And it sounds like his age is catching up with him as he’s notified the league and fans he won’t be playing but rather resting his body for what he hopes to be another booze-filled Stanly Cup summer. But does the Great 8 owe the NHL, fans, and/or the game his presence? Our pod crew has some mixed feelings…

Dallas Stars CEO, Jim Lites, turned to the media to describe Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn’s state of play. He didn’t mince words as he said, “they are fucking horseshit, I don’t know how else to put it.” A strong, hilarious, and unconventional method to try and jumpstart his superstars.
