Kittleberger intros the show with an obscure Groundhog Day movie reference only the useless-knowledge-likes of Kustron could spot.

Rubeo provides a brief, unlikely complement to Kittel’s goaltending performance in their past beer league game before whining about defeat and his failed attempt to get his confidence up in preparation of playing full-contact hockey against the Sun Valley Suns next weekend in Idaho.

Schwartz attends the Pens v. Jets game and was allegedly carded and assumed to be 24, but the rest of the crew isn’t buying it.

Lastly, Kus closes out the intro by requesting everyone’s biggest hockey pet peeve. All before…

ICYMI:

Johnny Gaudreau, Brent Burns, and Robin Lehner were named the NHL’s 3 Stars of the week.

Crosby was so entertained with a heckler’s chirps at Madison Square Garden last week, he gifted the heckler an autographed stick.

Dubnyk brought a young fan to tears by signing and giving him his stick. No doubt the youngster is a fan for life.

Patrick Kane criticized the NHL’s priority of each NHL franchise having an All-Star game representative, particularly while Mitch Marner and Morgan Reilly are having career years yet left off the rosters.

The NHL unveiled this year’s All-Star Game jerseys made of ocean plastic.

Hampus Lindholm of the Anaheim Duck nearly killed Connor McDavid. What do you think of the hit? Malicious? Instinctual?

Finland won their third World Junior Championship in six years, defeating USA 3-2 in the championship game. Kaapo Kakko, a top prospect entering this year’s NHL draft scored the game-winner for Finland.

Speaking of the NHL draft, what about this as an appetizer to the main event:

Rather than watching Gary Bettman play with lottery balls in some hotel lobby, the night before the NHL playoffs start, the 2 last place teams in the NHL play for the 1st overall pick in the draft?

It would certainly provide the last place teams something to play for and the fans something to cheer for after a long season. Plus, additional revenue. C’mon Gary, think about it.

Making Artemi Panarin‘s decision a little more difficult, Columbus-based High Bank Distillery posted a billboard in Columbus promising the Breadman free vodka for life if he re-signs with the Columbus Blue Jackets instead of testing free agency. If free Russian holy water for life doesn’t convince him to stay in Columbus, surely nothing will!

Weekly Picks:

Once again, Michael Filarski, of beer league team, Blame Canada in Anchorage, AK led the Weekly Picks leaderboard last week, earning himself a free $20 HPC gift card. If he can keep his torrid pace to lead the month, he’ll win a free HPC XV3 hockey stick.

Per usual, the podcast crew debate 3 of this week’s 9 prediction questions:

Who will win the Colorado Avalanche v. Calgary Flames game Wednesday?

Which duo will record the most points Thursday: Bergeron and Krug, Nylander and Reilly, Barzal and Boychuk, Benn and Klingberg, or Point and Hedman?

Who will record the most points Saturday: Max Domi, Cam Atkinson, Zach Parise, Reilly Smith, or Logan Couture?

And no Hockey Players Club Podcast would be complete without a round of Top Shelf Trivia. This week Kittelberger, the HPC’s bonafide nerd, scoured historical NHL data to find the seasons NHL players scored more goals than assists. He then formed a top 10 list, widest margin at the top. Seriously, we love him, but who’s got that much time on their hands??

Please follow and reach out to the Hockey Players Club via InstagramFacebook, and Twitter to submit your questions and comments to the HPC podcast crew. And don’t forget, take 60-seconds to submit your Weekly Picks for a chance to win a FREE $20 HPC gift card (for weekly winners) and Hockey Players Club XV3 hockey stick (awarded to monthly winners).
